Arsenal Poised to Sign Striker on Massive Five-Year Deal

London, July 2, 2025 –
Premier League giants Arsenal are closing in on a major coup this summer
transfer window. According to multiple reports, a five-year contract worth
around £70 million has been
agreed with their top striker target, with the club’s new
sporting director Andrea Berta eager to secure a big-name addition to Mikel
Arteta’s squad.
While Arsenal had been balancing
interest between two standout strikers – RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and
Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres, it appears Arteta’s side have now settled
their sights firmly on Gyökeres. Sources say that negotiations have progressed
to the point where personal terms are virtually finalized, and Berta is also
eyeing a second marquee arrival in addition to the frontman.
That said, there’s still one
final hurdle: agreeing on a transfer fee with Sporting. Talks remain ongoing
over whether Arsenal can meet or reduce expectations around a £70–80 million valuation, with Fabrizio
Romano emphasizing that while player terms are in place, discussions with
Sporting have yet to be concluded.
Interest in this summer signing
has intensified in recent days, with sources suggesting that the player himself
is keen on a move even to the extent of closing off ties in Portugal to smooth
the transfer.
Arteta and Berta are under
pressure to deliver before pre-season training begins in mid-July, and this
move marks the club’s second major signing after locking in goalkeeper Kepa
Arrizabalaga earlier in the window.
